I got back my life
Last year, I got really sick with a viral infection and shortly after lost my ability to walk completely. I went to numerous doctors and specialists who did extensive tests and could not diagnose the exact reason for this physical condition.
After nine months of extensive vitamin therapies and physical therapy, I had improved, but was still using a cane and was unable to tolerate great distances. I started to have whole body muscle spasms, speech difficulties, fatigue, and nerve pain that would keep me up at nights. After a year of dealing with this, I was referred hyperbaric oxygen treatments, after a few weeks of treatment, I could move around without my walker! I also got my speech back and can drive without concern of a spasmodic event. All of those involved truly saved my life. I cannot tell you how much thankful to HBOT treatment. — Ashish Bansal, New Delhi.
What is HBOT?
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a well-established treatment for brain and other nervous system related disorders. It is also being increasingly used in the treatment of serious infections, bubbles of air in your blood vessels, heart ailments, respiratory disorders like asthma and wounds that won’t heal as a result of diabetes or radiation injury.
In a hyperberic oxygen therapy chamber, the air pressure is increased to three times higher than normal air pressure. Under these conditions, your lungs can gather more oxygen than would be possible breathing pure oxygen at normal air pressure.
Your blood carries this oxygen throughout your body. This helps fight bacteria and stimulate the release of substances called growth factors and stem cells, which promote healing.
Within the circulatory system, red blood cells transport oxygen throughout the body. With hyperbaric oxygen therapy, oxygen is carried to areas where circulation is diminished or blocked, since it is dissolved into all of the body’s fluids, including the plasma, the central nervous system fluids, the lymphatic fluid, and the bone. Moreover, extra oxygen is able to nourish damaged tissues, enhancing the body’s capacity to mediate its own healing process. The increased oxygen also greatly improves the body’s infection control, as it enhances the function of the white blood cells and promotes the formation of new blood vessels in the affected areas.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is not a temporary fix. Case histories show that the procedure produces progressively dramatic results with continued use. Children with severe autism or cerebral palsy have seen remarkable progress. Heart attack victims have been known to leave the hospital in half the time and return home, instead of needing long-term care in nursing homes. Brain scans show marked improvement in the cellular trauma associated with multiple sclerosis. Athletes have been known to use hyperbaric oxygen therapy for the rapid recovery from sports injuries and to gain optimal performance.
Because oxygen is inhaled under pressure into the fluids of the body and is more efficiently absorbed into all the body’s cells, hyperbaric oxygen therapy promotes the growth of collagen—the foundation of firm new skin. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is also known for its detoxification properties. In addition to increasing the delivery of oxygen throughout the body, HBOT enhances the white blood cells’ ability to fight infection and helps the body build new connective tissue and kill certain types of harmful bacteria.
While HBOT is not a miracle cure, it is a non-invasive, safe treatment, and has a growing body of documented studies that substantiate its ability to help people live longer, more comfortable, and productive lives.
In What Diseases kind of Diseases is HBOT helpful
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy may be used to treat patients who suffer from various diseases or injuries associated with hypoxia, or lack of oxygen on a cellular level. HBOT can also be used for its antibiotic properties as it enhances infection control. These conditions include:
